Dental X-ray machine is a commonly used instrument in the Department of Stomatology to diagnose oral parts for film inspection.
During a dental exam, a dental x-ray machine sends x-rays through your mouth. Before the X-ray hits the X-ray film, most of it will be absorbed by dense tissues in the mouth such as teeth and bones, and a small amount will be absorbed by soft tissues in the mouth such as cheeks and gums. Thus, the X-ray film was produced. Teeth appear bright on x-rays because only a small amount of x-rays shine through the teeth onto the x-ray film. In the same way, signs of cavities, infection and gum disease, including changes in the bones and ligaments that hold teeth in place, will show up on x-rays. These areas will be relatively dark because relatively more X-rays are transmitted through them. Dental restorations (fillings, crowns) appear brighter or darker on radiographs depending on the restorative material used. Dentists can safely and accurately spot lesions by analyzing X-rays.
